- Honore de Balzac (1799-1850): 19. yüzyıl Fransız edebiyatının büyük ismi. Edebi kariyerine oyun yazarak başladı. Ancak aldığı eleştiriler neticesinde romana yöneldi. Yirmi yılda 85 romanı tamamladı, öldüğünde arkasında 50 roman taslağı bıraktı. 1830 yılında kurmacaeserlerini Dante'nin İlahi Komedya'sına atıfla İnsanlık Komedyası başlığı altında topladı. Bir kısmı zaman içerisinde edebiyat arketiplerine dönüşen 2000'den fazla karakter yarattı ve bütün karakterlerini önyargıdan uzak analitik bir yaklaşımla, toplumsal sınıflarından yalıtmadan ele aldı.Kısa bir roman olan Sarrasine, İnsanlık Komedyası'nın Paris Yaşamından Sahneler ayağında yer alır.
