According to the manufacturer, these beads can be used in an unfiltered habitat to keep the ammonia levels low. However, these beads may not work in filtered tanks. One buyer tried using them in a filtered tank and ended up clogging the filter, resulting in cloudy water. Another buyer asked if leaving these beads in the tank for too long would spike ammonia levels. One buyer remarked that when the beads get older, they do result in elevated ammonia levels. However, another buyer said these beads kept the water cleaner in their tank. The beads can be added to a tank with rocks at the bottom and do not need to be refrigerated. They can also be put down the garbage disposal as they dissolve quickly. These beads are compatible with tanks with a heater. In terms of customer reviews, while some buyers have reported that these beads work well and keep their bettas healthy, others have had negative experiences.
