Customers have to open the original fob, clean the electronics, install a new battery, and snap the back together with the new cover. The new shell is durable and can provide a good environmental seal along with clean new button contacts. The product seems to be functioning reasonably well for those whose original fob has intact electronics that work fine after cleaning. The product is not suitable for those whose circuit board is cracked or corroded by a leaky battery. In that case, a whole new replacement fob will have to be purchased, registered to the vehicle. However, some customers have complained of issues like buttons getting stuck inside, the plastic not fitting the original electronics exactly, the silicone buttons lacking contact material, and needing to use just the back half as the key pad would not work with existing board. One customer had to purchase another keyless entry, along with the mechanism for the car, when their SUV didn't come with a keyless entry, and couldn't use this product.
